5 QUESTIONS ASKED BY ETEM - WE PRESENT YOU STEVEN KENNEDY FROM GRIMSHAW ARCHITECTS

Do you have a favorite thought by a famous architect or a thought related to the architect?

The first popular architect to teach me was Alvar Aalto. I liked the connection between architecture and nature. This goes beyond the spatial understanding, it is a matter of different senses - sight, hearing, touch.

Describe to us the city of the future, for example, what will it look like 50 years from now?

I believe the cities of the future will be much greener than they are now. I think the closest to the cities of the future is Singapore because it is really is green. It is essential for us as engineers, designers, architects to use every opportunity to create green cities in terms of individual buildings as well as parks and green spaces on the roofs of buildings.

What is the masterpiece project of all time according to you?

Durham Cathedral. I grew up very close to Durham, so I have spent a great deal of time in this cathedral, and every time I find something in it that intrigues me - for example, its foundations, which are one meter deep (built on a rocky plateau and surrounded on three sides by a river); that the master was a Muslim. I always find it exciting in many ways.

How would you describe your individual style - the signature you leave on a project?

Making people feel good and happy. People who use the building every day - from its owners and those who maintain it to the cleaners. It is very important to realize this aspect: if we can restore the humanity of a building, it can make it successful, and thus turn my participation in it into a success.

What is your favorite movie?

This is a difficult question. It is a bit like asking if I have a favorite music band. There are so many great bands. Let me think... "The usual suspects".
