The automotive industry is under pressure to meet regulatory requirements, including to reduce greenhouse gases. A critical element of this goal is to reduce the weight of vehicles. In 2014 and 2015 there was a major switch from the use of traditional steel to aluminium in automobile production, including the replacement of advanced high strength steel (AHSS) with aluminium. This is a trend that will only increase in the coming years.
ETEM is able to draw upon forty years of industrial metallurgical experience. In addition, the company has continuously invested in state-of-the-art technological equipment and highly skilled people. As a result, ETEM has become a significant supplier of aluminium profiles, and aluminium semi-finished and finished products, to the automotive industry.
The automotive industry’s strict norms and requirements require highly certified and standardized procedures. ETEM is committed to delivering quality products according to specification, and collaborates and forms partnerships with accredited organizations and laboratories throughout Europe (for example, Institut für Korrosionsschutz in Dresden, National Technical University of Athens) in order to test and certify products and processes.
ETEM is certified for the production of CRASH RELEVANT aluminium profiles and is an accredited TIER 2 and TIER 1 Automotive supplier, making products directly for the automotive industry and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
ETEM’s objective is to clearly understand each customers’ needs and processes, and to provide them with value added products that help them to achieve their goals. With a dedicated, creative and highly skilled Research and Development team with extensive experience in the automotive sector to call on, ETEM collaborates with customers right from the preliminary stages of a project to help achieve the desired outcome.
Dedicated to quality and precision, ETEM designs and builds aluminium products for numerous automotive applications, including:
We offer a wide selection of innovative, value added products for use in the automobile industry. Investment in human capital, state of the art equipment and technology has allowed us to become versatile experts in our field, delivering a bespoke range of semi-finished or finished products tailored to exact specifications thanks to processes such as high precision machining. All our profiles are delivered ready for use.
We are not new to this field but have extensive experience in it, and we are certified to produce crash relevant aluminium profiles. ETEM is also an accredited Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive supplier with experience making specific products exclusively for automotive industries and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
We understand that crash relevant aluminium profiles and parts need to have strong mechanical properties - such as static stiffness - combined with maximum energy absorption capacity. The parts we produce absorb energy by controlled folding, a key design criterion for mechanical process and component development in the automotive industry.
Using aluminium alloys in commercial vehicles delivers a 40 – 60% weight saving, as compared to other materials. This, in turn, translates to an increase in payload and fuel savings. Aluminium also performs exceptionally well in terms of corrosion resistance, an obvious advantage when it comes to the need for durability and lower maintenance costs in the road transport sector.
At ETEM we are pleased to be a supplier to a number of well known trailer manufacturers with custom designed extruded profiles in 6060, 6063, 6005A and 6082 alloys, used for various types of trailer superstructures and chassis parts. Our position in the market is well established thanks to capability such as producing cut to length profiles up to 14 metres long. Ownership of 5 presses with varying extrusion forces, with the possibility to use ingots of 7, 8 and 9 inches in diameter, makes our offering versatile and extensive.
Specifically designed profiles, cost effective production and a range of size and weight variables mean ETEM can help transport market clients to new levels of performance and efficiency.
In addition to road transport, ETEM is also gaining prominence in the marine sector. We are certified by Lloyds Register, a maritime classification society that inspects and approves important components and accessories for use in the marine industry. ETEM works with Alloy 6082 T6 - widely used in common shipbuilding applications -, which allows us to offer numerous products for marine use.
Our expertise also includes:
In all of these uses, the lightweight and durable nature of aluminium has made it an obvious choice for heavy loads in challenging environments for businesses looking to get ahead.
